The world is so strange that, even when we don’t want to, we give certain things so much importance. And even when we do want to, we deny the importance of some things.
Sometimes, a person prefers to keep their eyes closed despite knowing the truth—because they don’t want to face their own loss.
The Harsh Reality We Ignore
The worst thing I have noticed in this world so far is that people do wrong things, and they even know they are doing wrong, but still choose to do it because it favors them. Sometimes, it does more harm than favor, but still, they don’t like to cross their previously formed opinions.
In my life so far, I have only seen a few people—so few that I can count them on my fingers—who, when they make a mistake, truly accept it from their heart, apologize sincerely, and try to make up for it in a better way.
I think the most unpopular thing in this world to this day is accepting your wrongdoings and flaws.
But what if we started questioning everything?
What if we re-evaluated what’s truly overrated and underrated in life?
Let’s dive into some eye-opening perspectives.
💎 Underrated: The True Meaning of Kindness
People need to rethink kindness. Many believe that kindness is something you do when others need it. But this is not the complete definition.
Imagine you are preparing for your exams and studying from your notes, but a friend or classmate urgently asks you for those notes.
Kindness is when you give those notes to the person who needs them, even though you need them too. It means putting another person’s need before yours.
True generosity reaches its peak when you go beyond what is easy—when you take that extra step, extending yourself further for the sake of others.
Kindness doesn’t mean hurting yourself. It’s about maintaining a balance—helping others while also taking care of yourself.
💎 Overrated: Consuming Low-Quality Information
Let me first clarify what low-quality means here:
It means reading and spending your time on information that has the least or zero impact on you.
If you spend hours on Wikipedia reading about a celebrity—knowing their marriage dates, their divorces, the spicy gossip in their life, and the controversies surrounding them—yes, you are gaining information.
But is that information and insights doing anything good for you?
Is this information improving your life?
Is it making you smarter, wealthier, or happier?
Probably not. Gossip culture (in schools, offices, and even homes) is a trap that fills your brain with useless data while distracting you from what really matters.
Solution? Start consuming information that helps you grow, improve, and evolve instead of wasting time on distractions.
💎 Overrated: “Follow your passion, and everything will be good”
Have you ever visited a construction site and asked a laborer working there for 12 hours a day:
Is this what you are doing your passion?
If you ask, they will tell you whether they are really here because of passion or if there were some compulsions.
The thing is, most of the time, we miss reality checks.
Have you heard that quote by Tyler Durden?
We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.
The reality is that there are a lot of factors you need to consider.
You cannot deny the fact that you need a stable source of income to feed your family and deal with crises.
There is nothing wrong with doing what you love. In fact, there should be at least one thing in your life that drives you crazy, that you love and enjoy doing.
There is nothing wrong with sometimes forgetting all rules and focusing on what you really want, but make sure that your choices are not negatively impacting your loved ones. Your decisions should not be hurting or troubling them too much.
Reality Check: Find a balance—pursue your passion but ensure you have a stable income to support yourself and your family.
💎 Overrated: Life should always be exciting
Have you noticed that, in this era we are living in, we still get bored easily.
Scrolling reels? Boring after 10 minutes.
Watching a movie? Feels slow.
Playing a game? Gets repetitive.
Why?
Because we always want “that spark” in everything. We constantly crave excitement.
But when you constantly do something, that spark fades. Humans always chase something catchy, entertaining, and exciting.
Sometimes, people even fall into the wrong relationships, get stuck in toxic friendships, and develop bad habits just because they unnecessarily want to try new things that have no real value.
But one thing we forget in these times is that we need quiet moments.
Life unfolds itself in simple and quiet moments.
Sitting in silence, holding a cup of tea, spending quality time with real relationships—this is what we truly need today.
That is where the real meaning lies.
Life isn’t about chasing excitement every second. Find joy in simple moments.
💎 Underrated: Redefining Standards
Society wants you to believe that high standards mean:
- A nice Gucci bag,
- Brilliant LV shoes,
- Traveling in business class,
- Going on foreign trips for vacation,
- Wearing famous designer dresses,
- And so on…
But all these things can be compromised.
You can’t afford a Gucci bag and still be a high-standard person.
A well-maintained standard means:
✔️ No one can fool you
✔️ You demand logical reasons before acting on something
✔️ People admire you for your kindness and wisdom
✔️ You are loyal to your loved ones
✔️ You are outstanding in your work
✔️ Your family feels proud to be with you in public
This is what you call a high-standard person.
Don’t put a price tag on yourself.
Your life is a reflection of your standards.
The Real Standard means A life where you control your worth, not price tags.
